Volvo has released a rather strange new concept that is almost certainly going to reach production, its a further range of the current S60 R-Design, it may be a tagged concept but is almost guaranteed to look like that when it reaches production. It is called the Polestar, if the name rings a bell, think of the previous C30 R-Design Polestar, the one with 399 Bhp and 0-60 time of 4.6 Seconds, quicker than a Mitsubishi Evo X. With a unbelievable top speed of around 170 Mph. But the new concept is even more amazing. It is meant to have, wait for it… 507 Bhp. More than the first generation M6 Coupe, M5, a CLS63 and E63 AMG and the same as A F430 Scuderia! You may be thinking that surely a Volvo can’t be as fast as an F430, but Volvo insist that the 186 Mph top speed and 0-60 time of just 3.9 Secs (Mclaren-Merc SLR time) is accurate. Meaning that this Volvo would easily beat a Aston Martin DB9 in a drag race, and could be close to a F430 S.
Despite this the Volvo still has 5 Doors and a boot, meaning that the S60 is still a saloon and makes it ones of the fastest in the world. With this car Volvo is aiming to break many records, and is likely to. Who ever expected a Volvo to be faster than A Rolls Royce, Bentley, Ferrari Lamborghini or Aston Martin. Meaning compared to the new M5, while specifications are involved it not only edges it, it makes it look like a Nissan Micra.
If Volvo pursue the way they are they are going to make something that will end up beating Supercars. But I think your expecting Super figures to cost Super amounts. Well the concept sold for over $300,000, but rumors say the price is expected to go for around £52,000 ($83,000) but is not confirmed yet.
But should you buy one over its main rival, the M3. Well the M3 is cheaper, but also 90 Bhp slower and would be thrashed in a drag race. The interior of the M3 is certainly better, and is most likely better to drive. Its a hard choice. Though the verdict is that Volvo-Polestar have aimed to rival the M3 and C63 AMG, But what they’ve actually done is turn it into a 4 Seat Supercar, so if your on a £40,000 budget buy the M3, but if you can’t quite afford a £100,000 Super 4 Door Supercar that has racing interior but can take the kids to school. Then buy a S60 Polestar, and buy it the Polestar Blue!
